Flecainide induced ST segment changes can mimic pathological ECG changes in patients undergoing exercise testing: A case report.

چکیده

BACKGROUND: Flecainide, a class IC antiarrhythmic drug, is used frequently in patients with supraventricular arrhythmias, mostly atrial fibrillation, and less commonly for ventricular arrhythmias. With its strong affinity to sodium channels the cardiac cells it affects phase 0 of action potential leading conduction slowing, which reflected widening QRS, can also prolong PR interval. These unspecific electrocardiogram (ECG) changes may mimic myocardial ischaemia undergoing stress testing. The current case report reflects diagnostic difficulties arising from this phenomenon.

Exercise-induced ECG changes in Brugada syndrome.

BACKGROUND Ventricular arrhythmia occurrence during exercise is reported in Brugada syndrome (BrS). Accordingly, experimental studies suggest that BrS-linked SCN5A mutations reduce sodium current more at fast heart rates. Yet, the effects of exercise on the BrS ECG phenotype have not been studied. We aimed to assess ECG responses to exercise in BrS and determine whether these responses are affe...

Noninvasive assessment of endothelial function and ST segment changes during exercise testing in coronary artery disease.

Endothelial function (EF) plays an important role in the onset and clinical course of atherosclerosis, although its relationship with the presence and extent of coronary artery disease (CAD) has not been well defined. We evaluated EF and the ST segment response to an exercise test in patients with a broad spectrum of CAD defined by coronary angiography. Sixty-two patients submitted to diagnosti...

Perioperative continuous monitoring of ST-segment changes in patients undergoing elective caesarean section.

Using continuous ambulatory electrocardiography, we have investigated the incidence of ST-segment changes occurring in patients undergoing elective Caesarean section under extradural, spinal or general anaesthesia. There was no evidence of significant perioperative ST-segment changes. The findings contrast with the results of other work published recently.

Exercise electrocardiogram testing: beyond the ST segment.

Exercise testing remains the most widely accessible and relatively inexpensive method for initial evaluation of suspected coronary disease and for evaluation of its severity.1–3 Clinical usefulness has been limited, however, by poor sensitivity of standard ST-segment depression criteria for assessment of anatomic and functional coronary disease severity and for prediction of risk.1,2,4–6 Recent...

Lithium intoxication related multiple temporary ecg changes: A case report

Lithium is a widely used mood stabilizer, which may cause cardiac side effects. In this article, we present the case of a 39-year-old woman who had presented with pre-syncope and developed multiple ECG abnormalities that are caused by lithium intoxication and are disappeared after hemodialysis.
